Corporate Standards

Since our formation in 1996, we have always worked to the highest standards, not only in delivering our clients’ projects but also in dealing with our employees, clients, sub-contractors, associates and the general public.

All new employees undergo a thorough induction when they join Perco so that they understand how we work, what we expect from them and, equally importantly, what they can expect from us.

All employees receive relevant compliance training for the following subjects:

  • Confined Spaces, including self rescue and breathing apparatus
  • CSCS – Construction Skills Certification Scheme
  • CPCS – Construction Plant Competence Scheme
  • Manual Handling
  • Safe Lifting and Slinging
  • Lifting Supervisor
  • HAVS - Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome
  • CITB Site Management
  • Welding
  • Fork lift truck
  • Pendant crane operation

In addition, many employees have the opportunity to take NVQ and other qualifications to improve and consolidate their skills and expertise.

Health & Safety Monitoring
We closely monitor the health and safety of all employees, particularly those who work in potentially hazardous conditions or who could be at risk from health problems.

All staff are trained in Confined Space Working. To supplement this, in 2007 staff working on site will undergo the Water UK C/S course which includes 1 day on H&S and 2 days on C/S procedures, followed by a 1 day NVQ exam.

We have also teamed up with Construction Learning World (CLW) who are currently undertaking NVQ levels for various types of training:- Forklift, 360 degree machines, Signaller/Slinger etc.

We have a tight control on H&S by means of the Weekly Site Agents' Delivery Pack which is completed onsite and is then checked by the Operations Director, Andy Fallon and input into our monitoring system. The pack includes:

  • PUWER
  • Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS)
  • Method Statement Briefing
  • Toolbox Talks
  • PPE issue

HAVS is monitored by trigger time for particular pieces of equipment using guidelines set by the HSE. Operatives complete the HAVS form, and their time entries are converted into points using the HSE's HAVS Calculator. Individual records are kept for every operative using power tools covered by the regulations.

We have started a Health Surveillance Programme which monitors the work staff, checks weight, height, blood pressure, urine sample etc. This programme is run for Perco by Medical Express.

Our Method Statements run to about 50 pages (mini H&S plan) regardless of the size of contract, whether it lasts one day or three months, the same effort is applied to health and safety.

Perco was awarded the prestigious Investors in People Award in 2005 in recognition of its achievement in this area.
