TRENCHLESS SOLUTIONS FOR LAND DRAINAGE

land drainage

Trenchless technology is the optimum solution for pollution-free rehabilitation, renewal and installation of culverts, storm drain pipelines and interceptors.

Increasing rainfall and periods of heavy rain causing localised flooding has serious consequences for affected communities, making the need for land drainage to function effectively more important than ever before.

Whether you need to rehabilitate worn out drainage pipes, increase pipe capacity or install new pipes, trenchless technology is the most efficient and least intrusive engineering solution available. Many people think that open cut trenching is cheaper but in many locations this is just not true. Trenchless technology enables pipes to be installed, upsized or rehabilitated with little or even no disruption to the local area.

Trenchless technology produces a fraction of the waste generated by open cut working and requires less newly quarried material for backfill. Time on site is often significantly shorter as well. All of these factors make trenchless technology a cost-effective and environmentally responsible solution.

The benefits
Perco’s indepth experience and its wide range of trenchless techniques give many benefits to the land drainage sector. Perco works flexibly to meet client requirements and can operate on a sub-contractor basis or offer complete turnkey solutions including feasibility studies, scheme design, enabling works and reinstatement post works.

Unlike many other trenchless technology contractors, Perco can provide a range of techniques to meet different ground conditions, site access and land availability, meaning that we can give unbiased advice about the best solution for a given situation.

  • Pipes can be installed under roads, railways, canals, rivers, buildings and open spaces
  • Pipe upsizing, cleaning, rehabilitation and repair projects can be carried out with little or no impact on surface operations or surrounding areas

Techniques

    Pipeline rehabilitation
Perco has unrivalled expertise in pipe rehabilitation, replacement and upsizing. Several of our techniques can be operated with minimal or even zero disruption to the surrounding area.

  • EcoCIPP™ lining
Ideal for the quick rehabilitation of worn out and damaged gravity pipes, drainage and ducts. EcoCIPP is a seamless GRP liner system reinforced with UV cured resin which can be installed from existing manholes with little or no interference to the public or to local operations. EcoCIPP can also be installed from open pits and access shafts.
  • Slip lining
An economical repair solution where the existing internal diameter isn’t required; slip lining can be carried out using continuously welded or Snapit™ segmental pipe sections.
  • Pipe bursting
Where existing gravity drainage pipes or ducts need to be replaced or upsized, Perco offers a range of pipe bursting solutions capable of upsizing pipes from 75mm ID to 1200mm ID. Perco’s miniburst, manhole bursting and Expandit™ techniques can be operated from existing manholes.
  • Pipe cleaning and CCTV
We offer a range of pipe cleaning techniques including pigging, high pressure jetting and debris removal to return sewers and drainage pipes back to full capacity. We also carry out CCTV surveys and condition reports.

New pipe installation

  • Optically guided auger boring
Optically (or laser) guided auger boring is the best solution for installing pipes when accuracy and surface movement restrictions are critical and access is limited. Accuracy tolerances of +/- 40mm in a 50 metre shot are routinely achieved. Also important is the ability to achieve +/- 3mm settlement at surface level which negates long term settlement.
  • Microtunnelling
Where ground conditions are unsuitable for guided auger boring, yet a high degree of accuracy is required, microtunnelling offers many advantages, including the ability to install product pipes in a single pass. Microtunnelling offers an alternative to long sections of open cut trenching with its associated hazards and disruption to the community.
  • Headings
In city centres, key traffic routes and areas of restricted access, this traditional technique is widely used. It is perfect for installing new pipes and replace existing pipes without disruption to surface operations. Headings can be launched from within existing buildings or from access shafts on site.
  • Shaft sinking
As part of our services we construct access shafts to install new pipe connections. Shafts can be sheet pile, timber frame, concrete bolted ring or caisson type. Concrete shafts are usually converted to manholes after works have been completed.
  • Directional drilling
Where sufficient access is available directional drilling provides an accurate and cost-effective method for installing new pipes under roads, railways, rivers and canals. The shallow arc profile of the installed pipe makes it suitable for pressurised water mains but not suitable for gravity pipelines. Accuracy tolerances of =/-100mm can be achieved.
