TRENCHLESS SOLUTIONS FOR MANUFACTURING

Trenchless pipe installation and sewer rehabilitation avoids disruption to production areas and cuts the cost of production downtime…

Whilst a sewer failure beneath a production area might be a once in 50 year event, when it happens the costs can be enormous. Not only are sales hit, but also reputations can be damaged if remedial action isn’t taken quickly. Where a pipe has to be replaced, digging up factory floors is both dirty and expensive and could mean weeks of reduced production capacity.

Fortunately, trenchless technology offers a clean and cost-effective alternative which keeps the dirt out of the factory and keeps disruption to a bare minimum. Perco’s flexible approach and understanding of manufacturers’ needs means that any disruptive activity can be planned for out of hours working and scheduled maintenance periods.

Perco has worked with industry since 1996 and has carried out emergency sewer rehabilitation and planned pipe replacement projects with many industry sectors including foods, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages, pharmaceuticals, chemicals & petrochem, engineering, high technology and defence.

The benefits
Perco’s experience in manufacturing and its wide range of trenchless techniques give production and maintenance managers many benefits. Perco works flexibly to meet client requirements and can operate on a sub-contractor basis or offer complete turnkey solutions including feasibility studies, scheme design, enabling works and reinstatement post works. We can also help plan the works to fit in with production timetables and scheduled maintenance.

Unlike many other trenchless technology contractors, Perco can provide a range of techniques to meet different ground conditions, site access and land availability, meaning that we can give unbiased advice about the best solution for a given situation.

  • Pipes and cable ducts can be installed under buildings, access roads and walkways
  • Pipe cleaning, rehabilitation and repair projects can be carried out with little or no impact on surface operations or surrounding areas
  • Perco is holds ISO9001 and is an Investor in People

Techniques

New pipe and cable duct installation

  • Headings
In factories where operations cannot be disrupted and where cleanliness is vital, this traditional technique is widely used. It is perfect for installing new sewers and replacing existing pipes without disruption to factory and plant operations. Headings can be launched from within existing buildings or from access shafts adjacent to the affected area.
  • Optically guided auger boring
Optically (or laser) guided auger boring is the best solution for installing pipes and cables ducts when accuracy and surface movement restrictions are critical and access is limited. Accuracy tolerances of +/- 40mm in a 50 metre shot are routinely achieved. Also important is the ability to achieve +/- 3mm settlement at surface level which negates long term settlement.
  • Microtunnelling
Where ground conditions are unsuitable for guided auger boring, yet a high degree of accuracy are required, microtunnelling offers many advantages, including the ability to install product pipes in a single pass. Microtunnelling offers an alternative to long sections of open cut trenching with its associated hazards and disruption to the community.
  • Shaft sinking
As part of our services we construct access shafts to install new sewer connections. Shafts can be sheet pile, timber frame, concrete bolted ring or caisson type. Concrete shafts are usually converted to manholes after works have been completed.
  • Directional drilling
Where sufficient access is available directional drilling provides an accurate and cost-effective method for installing pipes and ducts under roads, airport taxiways and runways. The shallow arc profile of the installed pipe makes it suitable for cables and pressurised water mains but not suitable for gravity sewers. Accuracy tolerances of =/-100mm can be achieved.

Sewer pipe rehabilitation
Perco has unrivalled expertise in sewer rehabilitation, replacement and upsizing. Several of our techniques are ideally suited to facilities as they can be operated with minimal or even zero disruption to businesses or the surrounding area.

  • EcoCIPP™ lining
Ideal for the quick rehabilitation of worn out and damaged gravity sewers, drainage and ducts. EcoCIPP is a seamless GRP liner system reinforced with UV cured resin which can be installed from existing manholes with little or no interference to the public or the facility’s operations.
  • Headings
The headings technique is also ideal for pipe replacement and repair in manufacturing locations as works can be carried out beneath production areas without disruption or dirt affecting factory operations.
  • Pipe bursting
Where existing gravity sewer pipes or ducts need to be replaced or upsized, Perco offers a range of pipe bursting solutions capable of upsizing pipes from 75mm ID to 1200mm ID. Perco’s miniburst, manhole bursting and Expandit™ techniques can be operated from existing manholes.
  • Slip lining
An economical repair solution where the existing internal diameter isn’t required; slip lining can be carried out using continuously welded or Snapit™ segmental pipe sections.
  • Pipe cleaning and CCTV
We offer a range of pipe cleaning techniques including pigging, high pressure jetting and debris removal to return sewers and drainage pipes back to full capacity. We also carry out CCTV surveys and condition reports.
